It literally was a foggy morning in CA as the June Gloom was upon us. Matt recorded the guitars before I woke up and then I came in and wrote the lyrics, which are among my favorite. In essence, it's about the nightime carried in my heart and the wish for a day when things can be lighter.

Recorded in my home studio 2009. I'd just left NM and relocated to CA. Leaving there broke my heart and my spirit on so many levels. This song defines a time where I was trying to hold on to my old life and move forward in my new life, which never works well. I always wanted to change the lyrics in the chorus to something other than 'cry' and yet it just hangs there in suspension.

This song is one of the most optimistic songs I've written. I wrote it with the idea that no matter who screws you over, there are friends who will be there no matter what, even to come over in the wee hours in the morning for a good cry.

The piano and vocal were recorded in one take at my old house in NM. "Falling Star" was written about the same time. I was in an optimistic place and felt life was going well although in retrospect, it was merely the eye of the storm. I like "Hello Sunshine" because in that moment things were on the mend in my life and I was able to be around my family, a luxury I don't possess living in CA.

I wrote this song sitting in the guest room of my friend's house in Ladera Ranch October 2008. For me, this song is very personal and speaks volumes about where I was at that time in my life. I went back home to Albuquerque and recorded it on one mic. Despite many versions later, this version is still my favorite because it captures the emotion of the time.
